Black Friday Blog Hop - 1 Day Only!

It’s Black Friday and not a minute too soon!  Or wait–is it too soon?

People ask that question every year.  Is Christmas pushing its way into Thanksgiving?  Creeping in on Halloween?  I don’t know about you, but I found it odd to walk the aisles of my nearby Lowes Home Improvement store where ghosts and ghouls littered the one side, while Santa and his reindeer pranced along the other.

Odd.  It was a tangle of confusion, resistance.  I was having a hard enough time as it was dealing with the fact that October was halfway over, let alone I had to start thinking about Christmas!

But what’s a gal to do–other than leave the kids at home when she goes shopping anywhere this time of year?

“Mom, can we get some more candy?”

“Because you didn’t get enough, traipsing through the streets the other night?”

“Can we buy some pumpkin pie?”

“Don’t you think you ate enough over the last three nights?  I know I did!”

“Mom–we NEED that ginormous Santa Claus balloon decoration for the front yard.  Can we get it?”

Are you kidding me?”

And on and on it goes, until Mom has pulled out the last shred of silvery tinsel from her hair, inadvertently stepped on last year’s collectible ornament, downed her final candy cane and dumped this year’s tree onto the burn pile, marveling at its capacity for holding its scent..  Every year, the holiday season seems to rip through the household like a cyclone of festivities and fun.

Fun.  Family.  Love, and the spirit of giving, the spirit of Christ.  That’s what it’s really all about, right?

It is.  So let’s keep focus here and be thankful for the blessings in our life, the gifts of joy in the form of family and friends and what the heck, celebrate a bit along the way. And in this spirit, I’d like to put up this gift in addition to the grand prize.  It’s an adorable case for that ereader you’re going to win, your choice of 7″ – OR – 10″ size, plus a sparkly butterfly decoration, perfect for planters or floral displays!  You’ll also receive a $25 gift card (Amazon or Barnes & Noble) and a free ecopy of one of my books — your choice!  (Giveaway is international.)

All you have to do is leave a comment with your email and you’ll be entered to win, both for this giveaway and the grand prize! What is the grand prize?  Actually, There are three.

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

2nd Grand Prize: A $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!

Wunderbar!  Now what should you comment about?  How about sharing a memorable gift or Black Friday moment? Anything will do, but HURRY–you’ve got a lot more hopping to do.  Over 200 chances to win!

UPDATE:  Congratulations to Tammy ~ winner of my Black Friday Giveaway!  Thanks to ALL who entered :)  For a list of grand prize winners, watch for Carrie Ann to post.

Years ago I worked at Toys R Us on Black Friday. We opened at 5am and it is the first Black Friday that comes to mind when I think of all the ones I’ve been involved in either in the retail capacity or as a shopper. It was insane! SO many people. As a cashier I thought it was kind of fun checking out what everyone was buying, but it after about four hours, a lady collapsing (paramedics were called) and a fight (police were called) it lost some of the fun factor.

I do still go as a shopper but I’m glad I no longer have to work it.

    1. dv says:

      Wow. Crazy!

  38. Renee B says:

That cover is beautiful Make mine the 7inch one. :)
This is the BEST way to spend Black Friday. Sitting at home, hopping with old friends and making new ones. I can’t handle the crowds anymore so I only do Black Friday shopping online if I do any. I tend to pick up gifts throughout the year so come November I’m finished. That way I can spread out the purchasing and not spend a fortune at the time of the year when my job is at its slowest and my paycheck is at its lowest. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win.

      You are a SMART shopper.

  39. Mer says:

Gorgeous cover! That looks so cheerful and perfect for escaping dreary winter days with a good book.

Black Friday moment: I love shopping but I’m not a huge BF shopper. But my family who I love dearly decided it was a must do this year. I went along and was utterly shocked by the crowds. Especially unbelievable was when the lady next to me in line offered to buy my latte. As I was cold and sleep deprived I decided not to add $10 to my BF haul and drank it myself. Craziness.

  45. Jeannie Platt says:

Wow thats pretty… I can say the gift i remember giving the most was during my husband’s and mine first christmas… he was an E3 in the marines and our eldest was 2 months old… We set a price for each of us to spend… I knew i wanted to buy him a wedding band because all he had was the silver ring that was my grandpa’s which i gave him when he asked me to marry him when i was 18… I gave him the ring right before he left to go to to MOS school in. Started dating in 1999, engaged in 2001, married in 2003

I clipped coupons and had 5 gifts that i bought for him… He had opened 4 (clothes and some tools) the last one was in the christmas tree and i gave it to him… It was the only time i had ever seen him cry besides when our boys were born or when we lost good friends… I still remember him saying… Oh baby you got me a ring… It was a plain 10 kt gold wedding band and even though we have a new set he still wears his first ring/his new ring is for date nights and holidays (men lol).

  57. I can still remember a few years back when I was driving home from visiting some friends Halloween night. Mind you, kids are still being T-OR-T’ing! While at a stop sign, I glanced over at the house on the corner of the street– and there, in their living room, easily seen through the window, is a fully decorated and lit Christmas tree. My thought? WTF? WHY?! Followed by:That’s just wrong. Poor kids that went to that house for candy were probably just as confused. Or maybe they’re more prepared than I.

    Enjoy!

I am pretty sure in my lifetime I may see Christmas decorations sometime around my birthday in August at the local retailers. I remember (gosh saying that makes me feel old) when it was taboo to put anything out until the day after Thanksgiving. I wish the holiday was less commercial and people would remember the true meaning of the holiday.

Thanks so much for being a part of the hop and for the giveaway! The ereader cover is beautiful. Did you make it yourself? If so, you should definitely market them. I am sick of purchasing all the “generic” and poorly made ones!
